At the foot of Pumlumon Fawr lies the impressive Nant-y-Moch reservoir and Dam. Once the scene, 600 years ago of a famous and bloody battle, the valley was dammed to create a reservoir holding some 26000 million litres of water. A 4 kilometre tunnel conveys the water 350 metres down to the Power Station in the Rheidol valley below.
Owain Glyndwr united Wales and opposed King Henry the Fourths despotic oppression of the people. At this place, Owain and his followers, hoplessly outnumbered, engaged and defeated a formidable English army of over 10,000 men.
Here you will find a small monument to the men who fought and fell here. You can take in the scenery, walk down to the dam itself and drive around the lake and across the mountains.
