Abaty Ystrad Fflur the Welsh name for Strata Fflorida Abbey, was built originally in 1164 on a nearby site. The ruins which can be seen today were erected under the patronage of the Lord Rhys d 1197.
Strata Florida is also the traditional burial place of Dafydd ap Gwilym the greatest poet of medieval Wales.
