This is a little a bit about Tregaronjacs how my cards and products came in to being.
My name is Jackie and I live and make my products from my home in Tregaron, a small market town in mid wales steeped in some interesting history, renowned for the Drovers who would herd their livestock from Tregaron to Barnett London.
On the main square in Tregaron with his back to the Talbot Hotel is the statue of Henry Richards an important politician of his day, he is looking across the square where another statue Twm Sion Catie (baddie turned good) peeps back from behind a tree trunk, and then there is the tale of the elephant buried behind the Talbot Hotel.
Background
I’m originally from a small seaside village near Brighton in Sussex and I studied art, then fashion and textiles at Brighton College of Art. I followed a different path career-wise, sewing and crafting in my spare time.
The start of the Welsh ladies
For my birthday a few years back a friend made me a small cushion with a welsh lady on and I loved it and that is how the dolls, mugs, coasters, cushions and cards all began to develop.
The response at local craft fairs then led to more cushions, dolls, cards and mugs being produced. Then felting followed, I was intrigued by the lovely pictures that could be produced using wool as an alternative to paint.
Inspiration
A lot of inspiration for my work comes from seeing the beautiful countryside around me every day, the hills, rivers, cottages, livestock and everyday life. The collie dogs devotion to their farmer owners working alongside or riding with them on the back of the farm buggy.
From the pictures and cards to the little welsh lady doll Christmas decorations and the felted wool ladies there are never enough hours in the day.
